Teyla was a hen we had a year ago and had given to a friend… life such as it is, she has found her way back to us and has joined Rajah in the booted pen. While not really booted herself, she does have feathers all the way down to her toes but stops there … so far the babies we have gotten out of her and Rajah have had very impressive boots, we will know more once they are about 6 months. Teyla has a get it done attitude and does not tolerate other hens being in her way, and will chase them out of the nest box if she’s ready to lay her egg and they’re in there. Weighing in at 11oz she has an attitude that is twice her own size but is a great mama and has raised several clutches for me successfully. WWSC band #476
Rajah is our Caramel/Honey colored Booted rooster. He is quite proud of himself with his 3 girls Teyla, Dolly and Twix. Mystic will be joining them in 2-3 months once she is old enough. One of our larger boys he weighs almost 18oz, but still makes the top of the weight scale and won’t be docked for his weight. All of his girls are on the small side so the babies should be in the middle somewhere. Loves to dote on his girls, giving them all sorts of goodies, he takes his roosterly duties quite seriously and has yet to miss an egg. Have several babies now in the grow out pen and more hatching every few days. I can’t wait to get some of his booted babies on the show tables. WWSC band #089
Dolly is the daughter of my first booted hen Penny who we
lost last year. She has got some great
boots and almost every toe is covered as well as her legs. If she throws that booted gene like her mama
did we are going to get some crazy little booted babies from her and
Rajah. Weighing in at 14 oz she is good
size and lays regularly. Not a fan of
staying on the table where I need her to at a show, she has decided that it’s
not her thing and she’d rather be a “home maker” as she put it. So we don’t show her, she tends to stress and
I don’t need to lose her just for a ribbon.
Perfectly happy at home kicking back chilling around on my shoulder
while doing chores, she’s just fine not going to those “functions.” WWSC band #439
Twix is the daughter of Mr.Mr. a Silver Birchen rooster carrying the Chocolate gene, and a black booted Silver Birchen hen (Teyla). Hoping she will throw more chocolate colors, but will be happy with anything we get that is a healthy booted baby. The rainbow of colors Seramas come in just makes it that much more fun to see what color you will end up with at maturity. At 8 months old she still has a way to go before she is physically matured. She is laying every day and gets along with her other 3 pen mates. Teyla weighed 10oz the last time she was weighed. WWSC leg-band #421
